Timothy Lehmann was the seventh president of Elmhurst. Born in 1881 in Russia, he was the son of a minister in German settlements. He immigrated to the United States in early childhood and grew up in Independence, Ohio. Lehmann graduated from Elmhurst College in 1899 and later from Eden Theological Seminary. He served in churches in Virginia and Maryland before settling in Columbus, Ohio where he was pastor of St. John's Evangelical Protestant Church for more than sixteen years. He received his appointment to the presidency of Elmhurst in 1928 and served for twenty years, until 1948. (From An Ever-Widening Circle by Melitta J. Cutright).
