Ivan E. Frick was the eleventh President of Elmhurst College. Born in New Providence, Pennsylvania in 1928 he graduated from Findlay College in 1949 with degrees in biology and chemistry. Frick then earned several theological degrees from Lancaster Theological Seminary in 1952, the Graduate School of Theology at Oberlin College in 1955 and completed a Ph.D. from Columbia University in 1959. He began his teaching career at Findlay College in 1953 and was the assistant to the president of that institution from 1963-1964. Dr. Frick served as President of Findlay College between 1964-1971 when, in 1971, he assumed the presidency of Elmhurst College. Frick married Ruth Hudson, who was awarded the Elmhurst College Founders Medal in 1992 for her work linking the College and the community.
