Juliamarie Andreen Grilly was born February 6, 1925, in Des Moines, Iowa, the daughter of Dr. Paul and Althea Andreen, and granddaughter of Gustav Andreen, fourth president of Augustana College. Her father was a pastor at a Lutheran church. She attended Augustana College for two years, then transferred to the University of Minnesota in 1946 and was granted a bachelor's degree in bacteriology (now microbiology). In 1947 she began work at the Biomedical Research Laboratory (now Los Alamos National Lab) doing histology, cytology, and autoradiography. Her specialty became photomicrography and she won several awards from the photographers association. She married Edward Grilly in 1973, and died November 29, 2005, in Los Alamos, New Mexico. Materials in this collection include books, photographs, newspaper clippings, postcards, and family papers.
